In the passing/gloomy of 480 BC/ancient Greece, a tiny/select/band of brave/Spartan/valiant warriors, led by King Leonidas I/Xerxes/Cleomenes, made their final/fateful/legendary stand at the narrow/mountainous/strategic pass of Thermopylae. Faced/Confronting/Battling an immense/vast/uncountable Persian army under King Xerxes, these Spartans fought/clashed/engaged with fierce/relentless/desperate courage, becoming legends/heroes/icons of courage/defiance/valor. For three days/nights/weeks, they repulsed/withstood/thwarted wave after wave of attackers/invaders/enemies, holding the pass and delaying the Persian advance.

Though/Although/Even though outnumbered hundreds/thousands/millions to one, the Spartans fought with honor/dignity/glory. Their stand/resistance/defense became a symbol/emblem/monument of humanity's/mankind's/our ability to stand against overwhelming odds.
